Aconitum (Monkshood)
• Ailments that appear suddenly and are acute and intense

Allium Cepa (Common Onion)
The common onion is a great example for the homeopathic principle. Everyone is aware of the effect of a pungent, freshly cut onion…. eyes and nose tear up. According to the rules of homeopathy, the common onion in it's homeopathic potency should help with illnesses that show the same symptoms as shown in smelling or eating a freshly cut onion. Thus, Allium Cepa helps with the following main symptoms:
• Urge to sneeze with runny rose and watery, stinging chafing nose secretion
• Red eyes, burning eyes and teary eyes, whereby the tears do not irritate the eyes
• Scratchy or itchy throat or hoarseness
• Hacking cough, especially when inhaling cold air
- worsens at night and when warm
+ improved in fresh air and in cool spaces
Proven in: hay fever; colds due to cold weather, wind and damp, when above symptoms can be determined
Apis Mellifica (Honeybee)
The honey bee is also a good example of the homeopathic principle. The effects of the sting of a bee are well-known: slightly red swelling, piercing pain, improvement when cooled. Thus according to the homeopathic rule Apis will help with the following symptoms:
• Skin is swollen, pale red and hot
• Burning, piercing pain
• The painful areas are very sensitive
• A feeling of constriction in throat or bladder
• Lack of thirst
• Restlessness, unable to concentrate
- worsens through heat, when touched, after sleeping, and in the late afternoon
+ improves in fresh air, through cold baths and cold compresses
Proven in: insect bites, especially bumble bee stings, skin rashes, joint pains, throat and bladder infections with above listed symptoms
Argentum Nitricum (Silver Nitrate)
• Many cases of fear: fear of height, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, Hypochondria
disorder, fear of hospitals and of upcoming events (i.e. job interview, exam etc.)
• Nervous dizziness with wobbly legs; sometimes with hissing in the ears; after mental
overexertion; motion sickness and other fears
• Thoughts and actions of very impulsive persons
• Diarrhea before meetings and appointments
• Strong desire for sugar (or cheese or salt)
• Constant belching with vomiting and nausea
• Cramp-like stomach pain with flatulence
• Cold, possibly numb feeling in hands and feet

Arnica (Wolf’s Bane)
• Important first remedy to use for all injuries and shock after injury

• The bed feels too hard which leads to restlessness and no sleep
• Oversensitive, do not want to be touched
• Need to be left alone

Arsenicum Album (White Arsenic)
• Restless, fidgety, urged
• Frequently drained, weak and exhausted after minimal exertion

Belladonna (Nightshade)
• Acute, sudden and painful ailments
• Illnesses with rapid rising high fever which is usually dry in the beginning and with a red face, then hot sweaty head and cold hands and feet; sweating under the covers; no thirst during fever; pulse is fast hard and pounding
• Result of wet and cold weather, wet hair and draft
• Infections feeling hot and red with burning or throbbing pain
• Enlarged pupils
• Sensitivity to vibrations, noise and bright lights
• Dry mouth with aversion to water
• Cramp-like pain in the stomach region, throat and abdomen
• Ailments appear and disappear quickly

Bryonia (Red Berry Bryony)
• Discomfort after hot days, especially if the weather was cool prior to then
• Important remedy for a dry cough with pain in the chest (thorax)
• Slowly developing infection – at first sneezing and runny nose, then coughing, pain in limbs and headache (behind the eyes)
• In general for sharp, pulling pains
- Worsened by the smallest movements

• All mucous membranes are very dry
• Extreme thirst for cold drinks, often with dry cracked lips and a bitter taste in the mouth

Calcium Carbonicum (Lime from Oyster Shells)
• Lack of vigor; appear tired and listless, want to be left alone

• Exhaustion and difficulty breathing with the smallest of exertion (i.e. climbing stairs), and this causes sweating
• Cold, damp feet

• Nightly pain in bones (in particular during growth spurts)

Carbo Vegetabilis (Charcoal)
Suits cumbersome, heavy, contented, older patients and those chronically ill; proven also for food and/or gas poisoning
• All symptoms can be traced back to lack of oxygen
• Sluggish digestion with bloating of the whole stomach (meteorism)
• Difficulty breathing with bloated stomach
• Cramp-like stomach pains with severe flatus
• Dizziness with ringing in the ears and nausea
• Wooziness and feeling faint with blue lips
• Sensitive to the cold with shivers but at the same time yearning for fresh air
• Red head after eating or drinking alcohol

Chamomilla (Genuine Chamomile)
Suits restless, irritable, irascible and short-tempered patients; sensitive to pain; hot (fever) and thirsty; difficult to please; proven remedy for children
• Important remedy for unbearable pain that appears suddenly and causes impatience and irritability (such as stomach colic, ear ache and nerve pain)
• Teething and tooth ache
• Greenish, undigested diarrhea (looks like chopped spinach and smells of rotten eggs)
• Piercing ear ache with heat and swelling driving the patient crazy
• Cramp-like stomach and belly pain, with flushed cheeks and hot sweats
+ improved through warmth
• One flushed and one pale cheek; sweaty head; hot red sweaty forehead is typical even without fever
• Discomforts through anger and frustration
• Overly sensitive due to too much coffee or other stimulants

Proven in: Children (teething, tummy ache, diarrhea, ear ache) and adults with complaints caused by high coffee consumption.
Note: If the patient is calm and mellow Chamomilla will (probably) not work.
Cimicifuga (Bugbane)
• Claustrophobia, in particular in public transportation and in the car, with the need to exit into the open
• Headache brought on by mental overexertion
+ improved in fresh air
• Neck pain with stiff, strained neck and back
• Spinal column is overly pressure sensitive
• Rheumatic joint pain (similar to muscle ache after workout)
• Menstrual disorders with pain before period which is mostly irregular and associated with back pain
• Complaints and disorders during menopause (climacteric), with depressive moods and rheumatic pains
• Depression, combined with fear and worry or confusion and despondency

Coffea (Coffee)

Cuprum Metallicum (Copper)
• Cramps in fingers and/or toes

Drosera (Sundew)
• Spasmodic coughing with coughing attacks in rapid succession, possibly with gagging; seldom with vomiting

• First a dry sandy feeling in the eye, but then followed by heavily flowing tears
• Eyes are constantly tearing, tears are acidic and irritate the eyes
• Pain is burning or pressured
• Feeling of sand in the eyes; constant need to blink
• Very sensitive to light, especially artificial light and at night
• Subsequent purulent secretion that causes eye lids to burn and swell
• Mild runny nose, burning tears that irritate eyes (opposite of Allium Cepa)
- worsens at night, in the warm climate, indoors, in bright light
+ improved outdoors
Proven in: Conjunctivitis, flu infections and hay fever with above listed symptoms
Ferrum Phosphoricum (Phosphoric Iron)
Suits nervous, sensitive patients who are prone to anemia who flush easily.
• All infectious illnesses in the beginning stages with heat, reddening, swelling and pain
• Bleeding, in particular nose bleeds, with light red blood
• Earaches (almost specifically for the beginning stages of Otitis)
• Beginning, dry cough; possible with light red blood in the sputum
• Flu-like infections with medium to high fever and quick heart rate
- worsens at night, in warm climate, through touch
+ improved with cold compresses, with rest
Proven in: Inflammations and infections without clear symptoms as well as Otitis as a first remedy (for example when Belladonna does not provide relief)
Gelsemium (Mock Orange)
• Effects of fright, shock, fear; effects of emotional anxiety in particular received bad news
• Diarrhea, in particular after an exam (Argentum Nitricum before diarrhea)
• Feeling of apathy, numbness, listlessness and no energy
• Lack of thirst (important with fever)
• Trembling weakness in hands and feet
• Cold shivers that run down the back

Suits plump and thick-skinned patients who are sensitive to cold, who have a indolent way of thinking, have a bad memory; who are indecisive; fearful and disheartened; music often makes them cry.
• Abnormal tendency for being overweight
• Constipation; feel the fullness of bowels but do not evacuate
• Cracked, dry, itchy skin rashes that may dampen and ooze yellowish discharge (also in the genital area)
• Nail bed inflammation with cracked, dry skin
• Peeling, cracked, dry, deformed nails and ingrown toenails
• Ear canal eczema with pain or (moist) skin rash behind and in the ear

Hamamelis (Which Hazel)
• Dark congestions and hemorrhages that won’t seem to clot

Hepar Sulfuris (Calcium Sulfide)
Suits patients with light skin complexion who have unhealthy skin and are lackluster; often very irritable and speak quickly
• Extreme sensitivity to draft and cold climate – simple exposing hands or feet (i.e. under the covers) worsens all symptoms, especially with fever
• Skin very sensitive to touch and the affected areas, even clothing can cause pain
• Infected areas are extremely sensitive to pain (boils, sores, abscesses, acne)
• Piercing pain (for example throat ache)
• Strong tendency for purulence
• Bodily secretions (sweat, discharge, stool etc.) are sticky and smell sour or of old cheese

Ignatia (Ignatius Bean)
Suits patients who are mostly sensitive, intelligent, romantic and with prone to hysteria; tried and rusted female remedy
• Important remedy for broken heart; grief due to loss of a loved one; also home sickness
• Changeable moods
• Tendency for laughing and crying spells (due to emotional stress)
• Sigh and cry often, caused by grief or joy
• Lump in throat and pressure on chest
+ improved when eating
• Often sour belching or sour taste in the mouth
• Physical and psychological symptoms are constantly changing and in opposition
• Cramps in arms and legs
• Headaches that feel the head wants to explode

Ipecacuanha (Seminal Root)

Kalium Bichromicum (Potassium Dichromate)
• Secretions of the mucous membranes (nose, bronchia, mouth etc.) are thread-forming and yellow in color
• Cold with yellowish-green thread-forming, possibly foul-smelling secretion and sore nostrils
• Nose and sinus seems congested; cannot breathe through the nose
• Loss of sense of smell
• Headache during or after sinusitis and after a suppressed cold; headaches are often in small, dime-sized areas above the eyes, at the bridge of the nose and on the cheek bones
• Migraine often only above one eye; prior to the headache often blurry vision – or even temporary blindness

• Nervous stomach or diarrhea
• Mental strain and fatigue
• Mental strain causing headaches with empty feeling in the stomach
+ improves with moderate exercise
• Dizziness caused by mental strain and fatigue
• Buzzing and humming in the ears
• Loss of voice due to overexertion of the vocal cords
• Mouth is often very dry in the mornings, frequently accommodated by bad breath and yellowish plaque on the tongue
- worse in the mornings, worsened by physical and mental exertion; through agitation; loud noises

Lycopodium (Clubmoss)
Suits people who love company as long as they are happy, but want to be left alone when they are not; who suddenly suffer a loss of self-esteem and are constantly filled with fear they might collapse under pressure; therefore avoid new situations; cannot tolerate any kind of opposition; but are moved to tears when someone expresses gratitude
• Feeling of fullness with bloated stomach and sour burping; cannot abide having anything tight around the stomach
• Cravings, often at night; but often full after a few bites
• Strong cravings for sweets
• Aversion to cold drinks; preference for warm meals and warm drinks
• Complaints occur at first on the right side of the body and the migrate toward the left side
• One foot is warm while the other is cold
• Bladder and kidney ailments, often connected with back pain, need to urinate during the night; urine stream slow and often after several attempts
• Oftentimes urine is smelly with reddish sediment
- worse after meals, accompanied by great fatigue; in warm closed rooms; in cold air or by cold drinks

Magnesium Phosphoricum (Phosphate of Magnesia)
Suits patients who are exhausted, tired, skinny as well as elderly patients; important remedy for cramps and neuralgia
• Stomach cramps and severe bloating (colic); with burping that does not provide relief; must loosen belt
• Cramp-like menstrual complaints
• Pain along the nerves are paroxysmal, shooting and stabbing
• Cramps while writing; spastic coughing; chest pain (Angina Pectoris)
- worsened at nights; in cold and draft
+ improved with heat and hot compresses; pressure
Info: Oftentimes a deficiency in magnesium can be determined by cramps in calves and toes during the night, in particular after physical exertion. This type of deficiency cannot be treated with homeopathic remedies!
Mercurius Solubilis (Mercury accord. To Hahnemann)
Suits patients who are very shy and introvert, distrustful, and are slow in answering.
• Important remedy for purulent infections (i.e. of the ear, nose or throat)
• Strong saliva formation, especially at night
• Halitosis with metallic taste in the mouth
• Swollen wet tongue with thick yellowish coating along with tooth imprints along the sides of the tongue
• Severe thirst even though the tongue is wet
• Ulcers and aphthae on the tongue or in the mouth and throat
• Tendency for wounds or ulcers that heal slowly, are pus-filled and foul-smelling
• Pain along the roots of the teeth, in particular at night
• Tremulous hands
• Greenish, slimy and blood-streaked secretions (ear, throat, nose, bowels)
• Skin is often oily-damp with tendency for foul-smelling sweat
- worsened through sweating; at night; in a warm bed or room; neither heat nor cold climate are well tolerated

Note: Mercury that is not in homeopathic dosages is harmful. It is contained in amalgam fillings as well as in various vaccines.
Natrium chloratum (Sodium Chloride)
Suits patients who have been suffering long spouts of sorrow which have resulted in physical complications.
• Consequences of sorrow, grief and disappointments, with dislike of compassion and care
• Depressed and withdrawn, introverted and brooding over the past
• Desire to be alone to cry, or sudden burst into tears
• When feeling ignored can be irritable and unforgiving

Nux Vomica (Strychnine Tree)

These patients usually love rich, heavy meals and alcohol. The consequences are an upset stomach and headache with the tendency to take too much medication. Consequently they become irritable, overly sensitive and short-tempered.
